Alright. Long gone was the time when I used to think that playing MMORPG's are a complete waste of time. Hehe. Yep! You heard it right--or, well, you read it right that is. It's just a complete waste of time...even a waste of money for those who PAY just to PLAY. I mean, seriously, for the kids out there who plays at internet shops, your parents are working their butts off just to give you your allowance. And the least you can do is to skip classes and spend, no--spend is an understatement here--WASTE your entire allowance playing those pesky games?! Tsk tsk! Dissappointed your parents must be, I'm sure of that. But as i've said before, those thoughts and views we're long gone...or at least some of them. So what is it that i want to really imply with this opinionated blog of mine? Hmmm...Just read on!
MMORPG, first and foremost, stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (as if nobody knows). It's a kind of game unlike the genres that dates back to the 'old school'. Before, games was just a battle between a player and the game itself. For some, it was a battle of players across LAN (local area network) connections. But now, it's a totally different picture--a whole new level of gaming experience. These games have become international--not in terms of availability or adaptability but in terms of gameplay networking. What do i mean by this? Hmmm...It simply means that the whole 'player-vs-computer' modes are a thing of the past now. What's IN and what's HOT in this generation, however, is the massive interconnectivity of different people, in different parts of the world...all playing on the same network...all playing the same game...simultaneously. This is primarily the reason why this genre of game is unique...Why this kind of game attracts people like a magnet--be it young and old--boy and girl...This game simply misses noone.
For some gamers, it's all just about the game graphics. For others, it could be the gameplay or the story/plot of the game itself. But for the rest, are there anything else that captivates them from playing these games? Are there anything else that completely satisfy them...? The answer would be 'yes'. This 'satisfaction' is the whole point of why I actually started writing an article like this ( a feat I thought i'd never be able to pull off, considering the fact that i dont do well speaking/writing in English format..hehe). So to make things short, my point just bores down to this and this alone. The satisfaction i'm talking about are the things you get from those whom you're playing with. It's from those whom you've met from the game playing alongside with you. Complete strangers. Completely different individuals. But come next day, and you've become friends with them your whole life. Yep! The whole point in all these crappy nonsense (if it is to you) are just the wondrous feeling of finding a friend. Oh...How sweet! Sounds cheezy right? But there you are. Then again, noone would know how one would feel about this, or know how big of an impact this would be on somebody, unless you face life a bit more lonelier than the rest. But for those of you lonely souls out there, these online games are for you. You don't need that lame pretense you get from the people you call 'friends'. When you're playing, the people who you play with sees you transparently, and so do you. They judge you accordingly, same as you judge them fairly in return--not by social status or by face value. In the game, only your attitude can take you to places. Your guts and playmanship is crucial to it...Something that most people in real life willingly neglects.
So lets get back to the question again. Is MMORPG still just a game? Or is it more than that now (after reading what i have to say)? Of course, the answer totally depends on you. But for me, I can only say this...
...I have met some of the most wonderful people in the games i've played. Most of them I would never have found anywhere else. Countless of them actually. Heck I'm ashamed to admit that I have more friends online than i have offline...come to think of it. And I know that sounds weird and all, but in the long run, i find that I didn't care. Hehe. I guess what i'm just trying to tell everyone is that...I just love MMORPG's. For the simple reason that, these games aren't just plain games. These games doesn't just revolve around fighting. You can get experience points...points you get not from slaying off monsters, but again, from the other players in the game. We're talking about the entire world here...so you learn stuff that most in your country doesn't learn...and that's being able to adapt to different types of people of different nationalities. You don't need VISA's...Nor do you need to travel around the world just to meet different people. You can do it right on the spot...Anytime you want to. You're the one in control...
...Finally, to cap this all off ('cause this article's already WAY longer than i would've expected)...I just have this to say...
....I know that MMORPG's are still just a game...everybody else thinks so. But if you're just like me...who's so far able to cope up with my views here...then you would agree that, from the way I see it...These games are a lot more than just GAMES...These games are a lot more than just mere pasttime hobbies...
...These games are quite simply, without a doubt, as BIG as LIFE itself!
